Necklace Trends for Fall and Winter '09

If you didn't get a chance to catch the recent fashion shows in New York, Milan and Paris, not to worry. We took a look at some of the hottest necklaces we saw and summed up the styles and trends so that you can easily them from runway to reality by pairing them with pieces that you already own.

Statement necklaces – It's no surprise that statement necklaces are back in focus, grabbing our attention and looking stunning while they do it. With chunky beads, bold designs and lots of personality, there's no such thing as too big of a necklace this season.

Pearls – We continued to see these beautiful stones in the form of long layered necklaces woven with tiers of rhinestones and chain metal. These aren't your grandmother's pearls, but if you're looking for something on a shorter strand, amp up the size of beads so they're gumball size. Or, try something sassy and go for colored pearls in silver or black. You don't have to grab an authentic pearl necklace – in fact many of the replica necklaces are fabulously fierce and inexpensive. You might even have enough money left over to buy a pair of earrings to match!

Bib or Collar Necklaces – Again, mass is key. There's nothing small about these Cleopatra style necklaces that take the cake when it comes to making an impact. Worn by celebs like Eva Mendes and Cate Blanchett, these necklaces look great when encrusted in rhinestones.

Layered Necklaces – Last season, it was all about layered knit separates, but for the up and coming seasons, there's more of a focus on layering necklaces of varying length. Grab a long pendant necklace, throw on a favorite charm necklace and mix in several strands of chains or beads for a unique look that will complete any outfit.
